I had the opportunity to sit down with one of the head organizers of RYHA and to be completely honest with everybody; the failure of Rochester Youth Hockey is on all of our shoulders. From what I can gather, there isnt a right or wrong way to be running things. There is a problem with the number of kids involved but more importantly, developing them at a young age. Kids learn things fast and we have to be there to help them learn. We need more coaches and we need more fundraising to bring hockey to more kids. Our number 1 goal is to first make hockey a sport that kids want to play and then help them develop throughout. We will be meeting at the board to discuss everything but I know that we will need to do more fundraising to promote youth hockey, we will need to bring back equipment swapping and most of all we will need people to devote their time which isnt easy. If we want to be better, we need to start making small changes like these. Have a good night and we will keep you updated.
