I had this Autodidactism conversation a couple of years ago, when I am really into attending a photography workshop. One of my FB friend discounted the significance of the W.S for the advancement/improvement of ones photography skill... I remember him saying a natural artist should be a self-taught learner but I dont comprehend what he mean by it, though the formal definition is already imprinted to most artists mind. Wonder how he considered attending a workshop disqualifies someone to be a self-taught learner too, since the terms says self-taught having acquired knowledge or skill on ones own initiative rather than through formal instruction or training... is it not obvious that attending a workshop is a proof of great initiative and is a day or two workshop considered formal training ? if it were so, what about watching youtube tutorials with step by steps instructions? what about reading books and guidelines? is it not obvious that the only difference is the physical appearance of the 1 or 2 day teacher? Should i call myself a self-taught learner since I finished my course on teaching kids and not attended a photography course? I say all these cause the one am conversing claimed to be a self taught artist who read and follow books and watch youtube tutorials posted by pro/experts photographers and discount a workshop even saying you are not a self taught artist for that matter.... I think the only issue here is that can someone afford a workshop... because if someone insist of saying workshops disqualify u to be a self taught learner...that means youre ignorant and misuse the term.... I decided to attend workshop so i can improve faster than spending time burning my eyebrows into watching youtube and reading tips all the time... and that I am exercising my initiative :D.... Anyway whats the fuss being self-taught learner if you brag that to your peers who have been improving fast and obviously has the vigour to learn...å†å®reflection2014
