I had to get reel creative to find a method of reducing the Peoria - TopicsExpress

I had to get reel creative to find a method of reducing the Peoria Symphony 14 reel-to-reel tapes down to 10 reels that my deck would play. I wanted to do it with materials I had around the house. I finally ended up using a filter from my wet/dry vac to raise the reel above the obstructions on my record player, elevating the reel-to-reel deck and rewinding the tape onto a 10 reel from the 14 reel spinning from the turntable. This working swimmingly for the first tape but on the second try it kept getting out of balance and wiping out (with unfortunate results). I finally figured out another combination that worked. Using a large 4 drill bit (for cutting holes for a dryer vent) placed upside down on the turntable (that fit perfectly on the platter molding), mounting the tape spindle upside down to hold the large reel while using a Bic pen to hold it all together I can now rewind the tapes at high speed with no mishaps. I dont have the latter method pictured but here are pictures of my first attempts.
