I had to wake up at 3:30am today in Las Vegas to get my early flight back to Edmonton where I will resume my national parks road trip. Tomorrow I head north to the little visited Wood Buffalo National Park and Nahani National Park in the Northwest Territories. Edmonton is pretty far north as Canadian cities go, but where Im going is well north of that. It will be 18 hours driving from Edmonton to get to Wood Buffalo and another 10 hours or so to get to Nahani. Wood Buffalo and Nahani are the 2 remaining UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Canada which I havent visited. Given how remote they are, it follows that they would be the last ones I visit. Im really looking forward to both parks as they are sort of the apex of this whole trip. From there Ill start heading back south through British Columbia and will visit the 4 BC Rocky Mountain National Parks and the 2 parks on the coast near Vancouver. In terms of total driving distance, Im still only 1/3 of the way into the trip, but I will be eating up a lot of miles this week.
