I hate not being able to give more regular updates on Robin. We - TopicsExpress

I hate not being able to give more regular updates on Robin. We talk to her several times a week, but her conversation is still limited to mostly “I don’t know,” “I’m good,” and “I love you.” She’s pretty good at answering if you give her choices, but can’t seem to verbalize much beyond that. Her best conversational times at HNRC were when she was just sitting with someone, not being required to work. And there we had people to tell us when she said something we might want to know. Not being at Timber Ridge on a regular basis, we haven’t quite got the relationships built there yet, and our case manager isn’t with her all day. It’s just hard not being there. We received detailed evaluation reports in the mail today, so I have a better understanding of exactly how she’s doing on a clinical level. She’s made some progress but still has a loooooong way to go. Insurance approved her for another two weeks and will reevaluate on the 17th. She still has some behavioral issues, which I hated to read. I think she’s most difficult during PT sessions (probably because it’s challenging), but at other times as well. She still tries to “escape” on a regular basis, and tells them she’s going home. She’s famous for “playing possum” too. (If I close my eyes, you’re not really there and I don’t have to do what you say.) :) But she’s made some progress, and I keep reminding myself this is a marathon, not a sprint. Sometimes I’m just tired of running and want to see the finish line, you know? But I’m reminded of the race we run this side of heaven as believers. Much like Robin’s marathon, the race we’re called to run is filled with challenges to be met and overcome before we get to go home (and also loved ones we want to bring along). But we’ve been given everything we need to finish strong, if we quit playing possum and keep our eyes fixed on the Prize, the One who stands at the finish line ready to say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Thanks for cheering us on from the sidelines, and often jumping in to carry us. We thank God for you. “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14 “Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.” Hebrews 12:1-2
