I hate to say this but it is true: If I got upset every time the state murdered black, brown, and trans people, I would never get anything done. You have to pick and choose your battles. From day one the state showed they had no real intention of taking this case seriously. So I disengaged. Does this make me feel less pain? No. Less anger? Yes. And Ive decided to channel and redirect that for the betterment of my own career that will hopefully fuel opportunity and change in the lives of many young students of color for years to come. Thats what I can offer. And this is my reality. I hope you all can get some rest tonight.
