I have a 3rd missionary out serving. And I am wondering if Sister Kate Kellys excommunication and media highlights will affect our missionaries serving out there. As it is, our Missionaries are shunned by people who do not understand our faith. I remember how hard it was for my first Missionary immediately after the Gay Marriage issue got front page news on most TV and on newspaper a few years ago. My 1st Missionary among many others he served with faced such a hard time dealing with staunch Gay Right Activists and their sympathizers. As much as they tried to steer away from the issue, people continued to highlight it as if blaming them. His fellow Missionary companions were splashed with gas at a Gas station by a disgruntled Gay Right Supporter. Some Missionarys were thrown at with bottles of water by cars that passed them as they biked on the road. Some missionaries were spat at, shouted obscenities at, thrown stuff at, swiped by cars, splashed with water, have doors slammed at their faces, and dogs let loosed on them. And all these valiant young missionaries were trying to do was to share the gospel with people. Now with Sister Kate Kellys excommunication issue on the news, how much more will our fulltime missionaries deal with?. I know, I know - issues comes with the work that they do and they also have heavenly father beside them, but I feel so sad that this may just be another excuse for people that are against the LDS Church to pick on our missionaries even more :(. So yes, I am sad it had to come to this. I pray that Sister Kelly will see the light and come back to the fold. She is after all our sister and a daughter of God. And my personal request to all those who care - Please love and keep an eye on our Missionaries serving out there. I know I will look out for those I come into contact with out where I live as I hope someone will keep an eye on mine serving in Nashville Tennessee :). God bless all our Missionaries.
