I have a HUGE problem with the Grey Knight Codex, but not for the reasons that others do. Ive been accused on my blog of being a GW apologist. I most certainly am not, but Im a realist. They are a publicly traded company. They would be remiss in their responsibilities to not maximize their revenue for their shareholders. You can debate that all you want, but they charge what people will pay. For all the Internet Toughguys and Pundits who say that they are going down soon, there are ten times the number of people just buying what they can and enjoying the game. Both sides have the right to exist. Whatever. More power to all of you. But this GK codex...I dont know. Its like they put the absolute least amount of extra effort in the design. I was actually a little bit happy that despite the fact that the typical codex went from $33.00 to $50.00 as they went hardcover and full color, The art inside was now decipherable. No more too-dark images that did not fare well in the move from color to greyscale. But now the painted examples on-table, and the individual unit entries also have the same models? WTF? Where are the really cool paintings? Where is the ultra grimdark atmosphere? You couldnt even isolate and clip the models for painting reference? Thats like most of the work in the layout eliminated. And whats worse is that they did this design change in the middle of this aggressive rollout of codices. Its just really disappointing.
