I have a belly dance performance coming up soon. As most people know, I am poor. So, how do I afford belly dance costuming? My budget for this upcoming performance is $5.00. Five dollars. Not six dollars. Five dollars. Our costume consists of; 25 yard skirt (I am wearing two), Ghawazee coat, pantaloons, tassel belt, bra, jewelry, hair pretties. I already have pantaloons that were made by my mom (for a grand total of $5 bucks). I already have jewelry that is years old, plus I may borrow more from the studio. My teacher has a fabulous costume lending library, plus we all borrow stuff from each other. I got a bra for $1.00 and will tribal it up with trim, shells, and other pretties I already own. My tassel belt is my teachers originally and is now mine. I own one 25 yard skirt - a gift for my birthday this Summer. I am wearing a second skirt that I borrowed from the studio. I have plenty of hair pretties. The Ghawazee coat will be made out of a Lands End jacket that I got from the thrift outlet for $0.93 cents. I will be making it all fancy - see my post yesterday about sewing - with trim I already own. I will spend less than $5.00 for my costuming. Go me!
