I have a challenge for all my Facebook friends. I am currently supporting a great organization called the Space Opera Society. S.O.S. is a not-for-profit independent production studio based in Montreal that brings together writers, sfx wizards, and other incredibly creative individuals from some of the most recognized science fiction franchises, including Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate and Space:1999. Their goal: to create projects that will rejuvenate the Space Opera genre and deliver the best content conceivable directly to viewers without the interference of networks and studios. Their goal is to produce original science fiction content for the web and beyond. SOS plans to become the online meeting ground for lovers of science fiction, and fans are being invited to participate in the development of projects, discuss their passion in an environment respectful of its fans, and of course to watch our productions. By adopting the crowd funding mode of financing, and a transparent business model, the Space Opera Society will go where few production companies have gone before. As a non-profit organization they are obligated to be transparent in their accounting to all their contributors on an annual basis so that you will know EXACTLY where your hard earned money has gone. S.O.S. is aiming to raise $202,099 in initial start-up funds. Know that your investment will be used for production, and profits will be reinvested in the development and production of new projects. Whatever money they raise goes towards development of their various original series and movie concepts. If they exceed their goal, it will accelerate their production schedule and enable them to bring you high quality sci-fi programming even faster. SOS has already begun pre-production design work, concept development, and script writing and the IndieGoGo funds will enable them to do much more.
