I have a difficult situation and Im hoping this group of true rat lovers can help. I have a 6 month old rat who I saved from a feeder bin when she was just barely weaned. About a month ago she began having neurological symptoms- lost her vision, lost her balance, squeeking whenever another rat or I touched her. She moves in very jerky movements. Ive taken her to the vet who said she has lost her vision, but theres no way short of an MRI to know whats really going on. The vet put her on antibiotics and steroids. The steroids seem to help, but I have to keep her alone now. She attacks any rats I put her with, including her Alpha male (neutered) who she was very fond of. I got the okay to up her steroid dose (.1 ml in the morning and .05 at night). Shes still eating and drinking. But shes definitely not getting better. I dont think she has any quality of life anymore. When is time for me to help her cross the Bridge? Thank you.
