I have a friend who truly believes that the wealthy are the job providers, and government has no role in jobs. Id like to point out that the Great Depression was caused by the greed of the wealthy & that our recovery was in large part due to the interventions of Franklin Delano Roosevelt with his emergency programs like the Tennesee Valley Authority, Works Progress Association, and the Civilian Conservation Corp. These programs provided work and improved our country a lot. Of course WWII really kicked up the economy and after that the baby boom resulted in a national need for housing. Roosevelt also created the GI bill which allowed men like my father (who was a poor man before the war with only factory jobs in his future) to go to college, something he never dreamed as possible in his life. Dont say the government gave him all that because he fought for it on the beaches of the Pacific and went to collage during the day & worked all night. He joined ROTC too so joined the Air force after graduation & served in the military until the day he died as a Colonel.
