I have a problem with campaign spending in Nigeria. The manner in which money is spent on political campaign doesn’t reflect the stewardship we hope to see in our intending leaders and I feel strongly that, how people spend money in campaign will give us an idea of how much of a manager (or even leader) they are and will be when elected. To that end, I have packaged some ideas for discussion in the House of Reps to be sent through my representative in the house (lower house), Hon. (Dr.) Sokonte Davies and hoping he has the honor and responsibility to read it. Amongst my ideas is a fixed amount (given to or presented) by all aspirant with a proper monitoring agency to ensure that they stick and use that amount to campaign. I make this argument with the frustration of how money has become a tool of oppression and bait to lure voters to vote for people of questionable character who shamelessly flaunt public loot at the people to secure their vote and the speed with which the people follow them in anticipation of the peanut they can get from them. – Emi Iyalla
