I have a question. On the club layout we are adding a scene of a logging mill. There is not room to put a river, logs will be delivered by rail to a siding. There is room to put a small pond, but there is disagreement about whether we should include a mill pond. The prototype pictures we have all seem to have a pond, but often it is connected to a river, and we all agree we cannot model that. My question is did eastern US logging operations use a pond to unload log into and feed them into the saw mill? Did they always do so, or were there other systems commonly used? Would they have used a pond even if there was n river nearby? Thanks,
