I have a question for all of you fellow Wildland Firefighters who go to school around fire season. I am looking at transferring to a forestry school after I complete my AA transfer degree and am having a tough time finding SAF accredited schools that start in late September. The only University I have found in the northwest that starts late is Oregon State University. Fire season is still in full swing in late August and I dont think it is feasible going to a university that starts in August as you would lose that experience of fighting fire and you would leave your district with a vacant role. I could go work for contractor which doesnt always mean steady income or work in another department June-August, but I like the summer time role I am in now and feel I would lose experience over time. So, how do you guys work school around fire season? Thanks for any advice or suggestions you may have.
