I have a question... if anyone has an opin, Id like to hear it. This article discusses a few weight training techniques, specifically reps and sets to achieve specific goals. I like to pyramid my training, meaning I start with a light set, basically a warm up. I do 12 reps without really straining. Then I rack up my weight with the intention of doing 4 solid sets to failure. I aim for 10-12 reps on my first set, knowing fatigue will mean I can only do 6-8 on my last set. Then, I do a knockdown set. As soon as I finish my last full rep of my 4th heavy set, I knockdown the weight by about 20%, and rep it out to failure. I only do this for large muscle exercises, like bench presses and squats. I also like to work in 3-4 sets with dumbbells, working lighter, and repping out to 10-12 reps, to go for the burn. I guess I picked this up in my gym rat days, but I find its really effective. I get a really good pump without hurting myself, and now that Ive been training for a couple months, I dont get really sore the next day. This article talks about 1 set to failure, or 3 sets or 10, maybe 4 sets of 8... Are any of my friends training with weights? What kind of lifts are you doing? Heres the article... sports.yahoo/news/many-sets-reps-really-093047952.html
