I have a real, legitimate, love / hate relationship with Facebook. I love the fact that I can connect to all my family and friends, and see what they are doing, and “touch base” with them; even if its briefly and electronically. I hate the fact that Facebook is corporately owned, and financially driven; which influences my experience while using Facebook. Sometimes, I can ignore most of the corporate / capitalist nonsense... but then there are articles like this that are hard to ignore: mashable/2014/06/29/anger-facebook-emotion-manipulation-study/ In the article that is linked, Facebook was able to manipulate users experience to find out how people would react. They did this under the guise of participating in a psychological study; and I am sure that buried somewhere in their 10,000 word User Agreement, they have every right to do so. I get it. This is Mark Zukerburg’s sandbox, and we get to play in it because he said it was ok. The real issue I have here, is that the vision and goal behind Facebook was to create a social network for users to connect. But with every news article (like the one above), and “change” that is made, it makes me wonder if the original purpose of Facebook has been abandoned to make way for a more profitable model for the Facebook stockholders...
