I have a story that you should all read.....please ladies go for your mammograms. Its life saving. I went for my first mammogram in May 2013 and was supposed to go back after 6 months as they found something they wanted to keep an eye on. But as life goes my brother was fighting cancer in SA so I went to go help him and in the end, November 2013 he died from lung cancer. Once I had a clear head and things died down i went for my follow up mammogram in May 2014. The results were hard to determine so I went back for many mammograms and ultrasounds where the radiologist found and thought it to be DCIS (stage before cancer). I had to go for a biopsy and doctors found another area that was infected by pure luck. This was diagnosed as breast cancer on the 1st July 2014. I had a MRI done the following day and found 4 lumps. My world was crash down in front of me. My surgery was booked for the 20th July but was not happy waiting so long. So we found the only certified breast specialist in Dubai. Dr. Richard Reyes. He has been brilliant. He sent me for a PET scan which locates any cancer in my whole body. Results came back immediately and the right breast also had something going on in it. A double mastectomy was booked on the 12th July. Dr. Reyes then booked mapping of the lymph nodes on the morning if the surgery to find the two main lymph nodes to remove them to test for cancer. I have had my surgery just over a week ago and recovering slowly. I also just received some of the results: the right breast was only DCIS so no cancer. The left breast had 4 lumps so 3 have DCIS and 1 has invasive cancer. The lymphs nodes are clear....no more surgery! I am still waiting for more results to determine my treatment plan. Please ladies go for your regular checks. My cancer was found earlier enough to be removed. Its a long journey but worth the fight.
