I have always found it interesting when Ive run across people egocentric enough to believe they “KNOW what REALITY is “ and that Other People are Wrong . Lets look at this for a minute or two . 1. We have 5 senses by which to perceive this universe . We interpret these things through our minds or hearts or whatever abstract concept we prefer ( not the point here ) basically , through our experiences , either first hand , or by way of what we were taught . 2. We all know and understand that we do not know it all , that is that we are finite in both perception and understanding . This is by the logical extension that we learn new things , thus in the moment before , did not know that thing , therefor we did not know everything . We all , from standard models , also basically agree that there are things that exist beyond the range of all our 5 senses ( for instance , the surface of Venus ). 3. As far as disagreement on what reality is , the statement “ everybody knows its true “ is basically an appeal to consensus reality , that what is real is what most people believe is true . 4. consensus reality changes though - in fact , most of what the attempts to make bold “ this is reality “ statements are an attempt to change consensus reality , and usually from a minority opinion to the majority opinion . 5, Once a consensus reality changes , the perceived “real” changes with it . That is to say that what once existed no longer exists , and that which didn’t exist now exists . This is particularly true of abstract models of concepts , which are reduced to things which can be perceived by the 5 senses . These are seen in Pictures Symbolisms , Archetypes , Simplified Concepts of few Words , and Acronyms. 6. The interesting thing is that every generation thinks they know what the real reality is , and that the past majority consensuses were wrong . But they never seem to stop to think that their descendants will also say the same of them , and that this is almost completely a sure thing , if one predicts future events based on past event patterns , which is the basis of what we call the scientific method . 7. I try to think thru these things when someone says “ There is no God “ or “ it is impossible for things to change “ or “ there could be no viable third political party in the USA “ or “ X is Good ( in an moral sense ) and Y is Bad ( in a moral sense ) or Z ( there is no moral sense ) , and if your XY and Z opinions differ YOU ARE WRONG . 8. People do this stuff all the time , I do it , you do it , we all do , most of the time without even realizing the eco this stems from . The ego that states , basically , I am all knowing , I am all seeing , I am all understanding “ . 9. Since we all have this tendency as well , Im becoming convinced that there must be very very important values and personal convictions present to justify trampling on another persons view or reality . Some , in their ego , use their “ truth “ to attempt to destroy other peoples “ truth “ 10. Determining the motivation for going against another persons view of reality then is what may be most important to determine whether that is a justifiable reason to disagree . Seeing what the person you disagrees with you about in light of their motive shows their values , their convictions . 11.Therefor, in the case of attempting to move a minority opinion into a commonly held majority perception then holds the responsibility of the pros and cons of moving something from an abstract theory into a consensus reality , and makes something that was not “ real “ real . It also makes something that was real , “ not real “ Thats taking on quite a responsibility for the effects of doing what one is doing . 12. May we consider our ways , and the ways of others as well . What are the stated values ? Are these open or hidden ? Is deceptive language being used ? How does this relate to Politics ? Religion ? Morality ? Mental Health ? Freedom ? Social Responsibility ? 13 If we are in fact unhappy as a people as a whole in our groups or families or culture or nation , why ? If doing the same things and expecting different results is insanity , is what we are doing , agreeing to , and living with , sane or insane ?
