I have always wanted to become a U.S. Diplomat. The risks such passionate and brave people take in order to serve their country and build with people from across the globe is inevitable, expected, and yet, sometimes forgotten. We are not invincible even if our grand dreams allow us to think that we are. Today, the United States lost another beautiful diplomat-- Anne Smedinghoff, age 25, was killed in a suicide bomb attack on a convoy leading her from the highly secure embassy to a school for Afghani children where she wanted to deliver books in the hopes of constructing alternative civil society pathways for the country to rebuild itself. My thoughts and prayers to her family and for the rest of the men and women who serve courageously in the name of their country.
