I have an Australian finch my two children bought for me as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. I had walked into a Pet Smart Store in Rapid City and he looked so alone. But this finch had vibrant colors and it made me think, ‘you look like God painted you so meticulously with a paint brush.’ All things, it seems to me, are fearfully and wonderfully made by our Father. When I would walk away from his cage, he followed me watching me go and come back. I remember saying to myself, ‘little one, you need a home.’ Jesus has done that with me for 40 years now. When I was lost, He found me. I was covered with the filth and sin of the world, but He cleaned me up and began His never-ending work in me. My little finch, Bijou, is like that now. Bijou is going through a molt, losing different feathers. He looks so unlovely; but soon, this molt will give way to new colors and Bijou will be a sight to behold again. Isn’t that just like our Father! We come with a smudge from the world, with our feelings hurt and He says, ‘It will be alright. My Son paid the price. It did not come easily, it was not cheap. Nevertheless, I have stamped your redemption as “PAID IN FULL”.’ Bijou amazes me as I watch his little antics, but what amazes me even more is the love and the care that God has placed in every living creature, in the oceans with their great depths of water and the skies when they are clear at night and I look up to see the stars. God calls each star by name; nothing in my life or in your life goes unnoticed by our Father. Remember, He has even the hairs on your head numbered! So, look up and thank Him for the gift of life through Jesus, for the beauty of all He has created. Let Him know how much you love Him. I remember the words to a Gaither song, “Something beautiful, something good; all my confusion He understood. . .” Thank you, Father. I love you so very much!
