I have an evolutionary question for yall. Fact- Human infants make one hell of a racket. Ive always wondered how we (humans) made it past the early stages with young that insist on calling all kinds of unwanted attention from predators. I would imagine that the scientific explanation would be that our infants didnt start doing this (rather, survive doing this long enough to pass on their noise making to the next generation) until we became hunter gatherers living in protected groups. But a thought recently occurred to me that maybe our infants always DID cry and the fact that that brought predators (aka food) to our cavesteps, coupled with our ability to capitalize on this by laying traps/ambushing the predators is actually what lead to us forming protected groups in the first place. So what came first? The crying baby or the human settlement? (Please dont turn this into something it doesnt need to be?)
