I have an important ANNOUNCEMENT to make. In 2006 I started a YouTube channel and a year later I hopped on this Facebook spot, which was dubbed the JUANTARCTICA project. I used my real name (Juan Perea y Monsuwé), yet created this fictional character. We thought: how many disadvantages can you give a bloke, in this sociological webinar experiment? So out came this Juan fellow, with an ASS label, without any real friends, without an office job, without colleagues, who likes to dwell in nature and configure routes in, what we like to call his reservate. If this wasnt enough already, we made him a hermit as well and only let him interact online with females.. or then, oh well, let him have some real encounters, dates, or walk dates on scarce occasions. This all as part of a sociological experiment, what effects this glass ceiling and glass walls around him have. To make the challenge more enjoyable, we let Juan do grotesque renovations to his man cave... make a medieval castle corridor, or rock wall balcony, or let him glue Juantarctica to the wall of his lounge, as a manifestation of megalomania. We let him as well record songs on guitar, which resonated well on the Balkans. Slovak sing star Kristina Pelakova en Slovenian folk star Barbara Ogrinc responded con gusto to a cover of their trademark songs, Juan did in a peculiar style. We also designated him to be an original Dutch poet, with alchemistical grotesque themes, to add to the daily mystique. Yet his trademark ultimately became, to post a daily stream of selphies on nice spots of nature, as to say: its not that bad to be me after all, and if you dont like it: see if I care. But today I announce, after nearly eight years, the project ends. Me, thats writer Juan. The only thing I have in common, is the face and the name. I am an actor, I wear my hair extremely differently.. I wear hugely different clothes and have been married to a Puerto Rican woman since 2005. We have two children. So now the fun ends, the set of the apartment will be torn down, and I will hop on to other dimensions, on Balkan TV for starters. Of course I will miss this quirky Juan fellow, I impersonated for all this time. Sometimes I even tried to act like him 24 hours at home, when I had a day off. Or I sent my wife selphies on her cell phone, in the style you were familiar to here. Yet that drove her crazy, and me as well, after only a day. I cant imagine what it must be like, to live an entire life that way....
