I have arrived back from Belarus to visit Vesnova Children’s metal asylum with a group of incredible Roses, Escorts and members of the Adi Roche Chernobyl Children International, all of whom I am extremely proud to call my friends. Words can not describe this life changing experience. It has been both emotionally and physically challenging while at the same time it has been extremely inspirational and rewarding. It is heart breaking to see the lack of affection, level of neglect and in-humane behaviour these children are victims to everyday. To give them a warm smile, a gentle touch or any amount of time you have, be it sitting by their bed, looking in their eyes or taking them for a walk, the love and affection these children give you in return is something you can’t buy or explain, it something so pure, heart-felt and sincere. Leaving Vesnova was one of the toughest things I have ever done, I left a piece of my heart with those 170 children and I look forward to returning!
