I have back-button focus set up on my camera. When I first heard - TopicsExpress

I have back-button focus set up on my camera. When I first heard about it, I was kind of skeptical about how it worked and its use. But then I thought back to when all my cameras were manual focus and it made much more sense. Your shutter finger is ready to capture the shot, while you work focus (and aperture, too, for my old lenses) with your other hand. The focus of the shot is completely independent of framing and capture. So I changed my Canon 5D mkII to back-button focus and its made a huge difference on how I take photos. Heres Tony Northrup explaining how it works. His setup is for Canon cameras, but its very similar for other cameras. Just google to find the settings.
