I have been discussing seward park redevelopment/gentrfication in lower east side yea Seward park was so much part of my life living in NYC. A disgrace the Seward Park redevelopment it did not have to be like this. Seward park was a battleground between white ethnics urban minorities in 1970s. White ethnics were hostile toward NYC mayor John Lindsay he is the only mayor in NYC history that sided with minority communiities in Lower east side. In response white ethnic communities along with sellouts in minority communities created gentrfication schemes like east VIllage and ALphabet city.No question Lindsay being mayor and his alliance with blacks and puerto rican communiites scared white ethnic communities in response they came up with all kinds of gentrification schemes this was in late 1960s and 1970s. Well one of those areas was Seward Park they used their political muscle to prevent Lindsay and minority communiites in LES to do the kind of community building they wanted in Seward Park. I plan to write a letter to City of New York challenging Seward Park redevelopment yea close to 50 years of lies to minority communiites in LEs yea this needs to be challenged.
