I have been getting a few questions about some of the paintings, especially the ones with those incredibly straight lines in them, Iris uses all sorts of tools and materials while she paints and those lines are made from her painting the back of corrugated cardboard and then turning the piece around and pressing it onto the surface of the paper, I cut up large sheets and a selection of smaller sheets and she chooses if she wants to use them. Her paintings are often made up of many layers and she uses a great variation of tools like stampers (those little star shapes) her fine motor skills are excellent but of course those lines are created with the help of different textured materials. Just wanted to make that clear as its causing some questions as to how she is painting them, my involvement...Back in the spring I took a series of photos of her painting Springdance, they are here and that shows some of her tools, brushes, sprays, different techniques, use of all sorts of items like feathers, rollers and sponges. irisgracepainting/2014/03/20/spring-dance/ One other point I feel I must mention, Iris loves to paint with her top off, she has always had sensory issues, she hates getting paint on herself and if that happens she likes to immediately wipe it off, onto me usually :-) While I was comfortable filming her when she was 3yrs old and we didnt have many followers, now she is 5yrs it seems irresponsible to film her painting with her top off. All photos and film you have seen with her tops and capes on are when I have encouraged her to wear them and she isnt always happy about that which is counter productive as she paints as a type of therapy and for her own joy. Facebook will close my account and all of my accounts, if I post anything with her top off so to anyone who has been asking to see more film this is why I am not posting them.
