I have been getting messages, comments, questions and statements about who I am going to fire if I am elected. Somebody must be getting nervous! Some citizens(more than a couple) say I need to fire as many as 65-75% if I go in. Rumors abound that I am going to fire all the women deputies, detectives, chief deputy, etc. that I am going to do this or that. The TAXPAYERS of this county have spent a lot of money to hire, equip and train these deputies. Most grew up here, have families and do a good job. Some talk on the phone a lot, drive faster than they should or sit in front of a business with wifi and play games or tell other deputies they dont need to see everything, it makes them look bad. The TAXPAYERS dont need to have to start over and spend more money on hiring new people and buying new equipment, uniforms and training. We have an 8.6% unemployment rate here, we have 24.8% of the people in this county living below the POVERTY LEVEL, we have 74% of the school children on free breakfast and lunch, we are approaching the 30% illiteracy rate,,, in 2014, here, in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, we have a HUGE DRUG PROBLEM that touches probably every family in the county, and we have a CRIME PROBLEM. I have worked in a Federal Drug Task Force and have the commendations to prove it. I know U.S. Attorneys have more to do than send out misleading or false statements about crime statistics, Then admit they used the 2012 statistics, when challenged. Those are the same statistics I used when I challenged the claim because those are the MOST current statistics available and there was not a 15% decrease that year either. The arrest made will make a difference in the crime rate in the future but not that quick. That is nothing but partisan politics and it runs rampant in Richmond County, N.C, Im an American first. What ever has been done is not making a significant change in the crime rate. Drug arrests in the paper every week are not counted on the statistics and you can arrest everyone of them but if you dont prepare good cases and get convictions,,, you have not changed anything. The citizens, all over the county, ask me constantly why dont they search this house or that house, why dont they go to jail!? It seems like the same ones all the time being arrested. Oh yeah, the normal script is to have a BIG drug sweep right before ELECTIONS, that time is getting close. What ever you are doing is not working, criminals know NO BOUNDARIES. In Rockingham, Hamlet and Richmond County in 2012 there was 975 Burglaries and 1711 larcenies REPORTED, 565 Burglaries and 659 Larcenies were in the county and resulted in the theft of $3,562,953. What about all the gambling arrests made last November, Im told it is still going on. Crime fluctuates, you have to be constantly vigilant for everything, copper theft has not slowed down, The SBI has been working overtime in Richmond County on criminal investigations for the last few years requested by the towns or Sheriff, where are the results?, was their a criminal violation, who has been charged, well why not? Is this the same old delay, obstruct, stonewall like we are getting from Washington? The TAXPAYERS deserve to know. It is my understanding there has been 25 to 28 employees to leave the Sheriffs office in 3 1/2 years and only three retired, if true, why such a high turnover? No, Im not going in and fire a lot of people,, There are a lot of dedicated deputies and employees of the Richmond County Sheriffs Office and most do a good job, some will have to change their ways. Im going to set higher standards, objectives, goals, direct your activities, tell you what needs to be done, show you how if you dont know, evaluate, supervise and manage. I will not have you do anything that I would not or have not done but If you cant follow my lead, I will not need you. I knew I would never get rich as a police officer, I knew I would not please everyone. People dont like being told No, Stop, Dont, You Cant. I am not selling power , influence or business everyone is subject to arrest. I did not make the laws of our State, but I believe in most of them and I swore to enforce them all and I will.
