I have been in shock for about three days now. For the past year I have applied to over 50 jobs, had over 30 interviews, several call back interviews, and still couldnt break down the age discrimination wall. In the last 2.5 years I have worked my own hot dog cart, been a temp for slave wages at Comcast with no benefits, bought storage lockers and had yard sales, and scrapped metal, all to survive. I spent every morning searching new job listings and sending out resumes. I spent the last 4 months working for Scotts Lawn Service ( an employer who DOES NOT discriminate on any scale ) With great bosses and benefits, but still not making a real living wage & still had to do my own thing on weekends. I have spent most of the last 2 years working 7 days a week just to make ends meet. On Thursday I interviewed with the President & C.O.O. of a great IT company. 8 hours later I was offered a management position with a living wage and a benefits package that blew me away. I havent been sleeping well for 3 days now because I still cant believe its real. I gave my notice to Scotts on Friday, and start my new life 2 weeks from today. Im still in shock. In total Id guess that I spent over 500 hours trying to get a meaningful job. I couldnt give up. I have a family to look after. The economic nightmare is over for us. My son wont have to be the poor kid any more. At least not after I finish digging out of the credit abyss that age discrimination put me in. I am still in shock. But walking on clouds. Someone please pinch me.
