I have been involved in many outreach and work and programmes of human empowerment in my life. I will always appreciate the dedication, support and energy spent by many volunteers and professional people from churches and other groups. Where I have been involved I also worked hard on securing that focus is not on an obvious symptom or need, but on the total community and its people and that they need to be empowered. In the work it is necessary to release/develop the peoples coping skills, involve and respect their right to choose - and more. This approach takes longer to yield results and therefore do-gooders may become impatient and reluctant to buy into such an approach. I am however, convinced that it is the only way in which the right to human dignity is honoured and potential released, communitys developed and changed. I am pleased to tell about KYP (Kliptown Youth Program) and how they go about their work with their greatly impoverished community. They have admirable achievements. They started in 2007 and seek to be Eradicating poverty of mind, body, and soul. Their website will tell you more. Keep it up Thulani and your team! Who ever wants to see what they have achieved and the international recognition they get, I will take there with the greatest of pleasure.
