I have been pretty quiet about the whole Noah movie controversy, but this is probably the reaction closest to my own. Christians have to do more than complain about the culture, we need to engage it. All due respect to Kirk Cameron, there are only so many Christian films he can star in. Christians have been responsible for sub-par music, movies, and fiction for decades now, in part due to the fact that we have a guaranteed niche market consisting of other Christians, and thats good enough for many folks. Thats why many now-secular musicians started out in Christian music - loyal customers, limited competition, and low expectations. This approach may be good for sales, but its not useful for impacting society. We should be pursuing excellence in all things, including artistic expression. We have much to sing about, more to write about, and a greater story to tell, than does the rest of this dying world. If we are to have a lasting impact on our society, the culture war must extend beyond politics.
