I have been reading thru most of my post about 9/11 and it gets me to a sad place. That day I was working in a hospital in Newark, NJ right across the Hudson from the twin towers. I was working in a CTICU and at the time the 1st plane hit the first tower we all went to the windows to look out and saw the smoke coming from the tower. We had the tv on in the room and as they were saying a second plane is coming at the 2nd tower we saw it burst into flames. We watched off and on until the towers fell. I will never forget that moment. In the mean time we were taking care of patients, calling family members to reassure them we were ok and some staff checking on other family members who worked near or in the towers. I called DR and warned him that we may be getting many calls from the midwest but both Dad and I were ok. I called my brother to ask him to go talk to my mom to let her know we were all ok. JD had taken the train to work but luckily got out of the city with someone from work who lived in Jersey and had driven that day. We (the hospital ) went on disaster alert in case we had incoming wounded because we were one of the close by hospitals in NJ-- no one came. I have lived thru Kennedys assassination, the Challenger exlplosion, the Vietnam war, the unrest of the late 60s and early 70s and other major and minor disasters but this is something that I remember as if it where yesterday. God be with the families that had loved ones in those buildings, the first responders, and all the people who lived close by. Their loose is still felt by many.
