I have been recycling Christmas cards this year and have noticed how few cards have had anything about the Christmas story on them. While there was the odd penguin, snowman and snowflake the vast majority of the cards where all about presents. This got me thinking about the commoditisation of Christmas (along with everything else in our lives) and how I want to respond to that this year, not just in terms of giving gifts but in moving away from the idea that it has to be a thing that is given, whether bought or made. How about a gift of something that has no commercial or transactional value, something that simply is for its own sake. Ok now to figure out what that might be! :)
