I have been researching the ancestry of my two biological sons - TopicsExpress

I have been researching the ancestry of my two biological sons (half brothers) and my stepson. DNA Tests have been done for myself and my two biological sons. I found it interesting that my younger son has black ancestry. His 4th Great Grandfather is Abraham LeGrant born in the 1700s in Maryland. The First Census I found showed him in a Census as the Head of the Household in of Free Blacks. He eventually moved to Ohio and later to Wisconsin. Historically many free blacks moved West because of harassment from people in bordering state. They would raid the households - kidnapping the children and sell them into slavery. Later Census identified LeGrant and the Children as mulatto. His wife Margaret was not identified at all nor was anyone else in the census. I have to conclude that she was white. My sons DNA test did not reveal any African DNA but he obviously has the Ancestry. Since Abraham himself was mixed, he married a white woman, the children acquired white spouse - Did the African DNA get washed away? Interestingly, my son does have dark features as does everyone on his Grandmothers side of the family.
