I have been talking to a girlfriend recently who is having her third child. She is somewhat overwhelmed, but happy and ready for the new bundle. One of our friends wanted to have a baby shower for her, but she is aghast at the idea, since her old school beliefs say that you NEVER have a baby shower after your first child. She believes it to be greedy and rude. I did some research, and she is right that this belief is widely agreed with. The etiquette says that A: an non family member should throw the shower for you for your first child. And B: You never have a shower after your first. While I agree with some of this, it is hard sometimes to have room to store baby things. I found an article that put it very well. Here is an excerpt from it ... Every pregnancy deserves to be toasted and cheered. But, since the true purpose of a baby shower is to help new parents acquire the gear and supplies theyll need, its probably not necessary to give a traditional baby shower for parents who have a basement full of baby clothes and equipment. Instead, consider throwing a shower designed to make their lives easier when theyve got a newborn and another child or two to juggle: a stock the freezer shower, for example, or a Mom and Dad shower, with gifts like their favorite movies on video or DVD or promises for baby-sitting services.
