I have been thinking a lot about my experiences 32 years ago...and I have been saddened by some of what has been written, become joyful at some things that has been written, encourage by other writings...but for over a month now I have felt a sadness...a sadness that I am forced to feel every year by the amount and type of posts on the Falklands War... I am not saying do not write about what happened in 82...but when you do I would like us all to consider those of the class of 82 that find this time of year really hard and really sad...one mans Catharsis is another mans Hell... Remembrance to some, is every day… I think often of that South Atlantic Island The trip down full of bravery and laughs Standing shoulder to shoulder with real men Wondering about tactical paths. Three to a two-man room but we cared little Our thoughts were filled with will we? wont we? and will our training show bravery and metal A Brotherhood built on selfless trust and belief... A change of ship and disturbing weather Landing at dark…hidden fears silently shared Digging trenches between the diddle-dee heather Focus on practical…hiding feelings of scared… The bit in between cannot be told to you… the culling of fear…you see…War is an Actionary… …of fighting men with hearts good and true… not wanting to take life…experiencing savagery Afterwards the stories are hard to share Mind filled with the shame of still being here …sounds and smells of a lonely nightmare increasing intensity…is so very hard to bear Today is the eleventh of the eleventh of the eleventh A time for reflection, remembrance and tears remembering the futility of death by War and missing my Brothers this twenty nine years… Remembrance to some, is every day… RIP SW, JP and DL KIA 1982 – Until we regroup in the Halls of Valhalla, eat and drink mead and talk of things missed… Kevin Spruce 11-11-11
