I have been thinking alot about the amazing amount of food and money collected for the Oso landslide. The outpouring of generosity from the time given to the college that will pay tuition for all those with an Oso or Darrington address. What once filled me with hope for humanity has become bitter sweet. I am an advocate for the homeless and those struggling in these hard financial days. Most times, the food bank shelves are struggling to empty. Kids struggle to find help with college tuition. I have come to the conclusion, sadly, that a tradgedy is responded to because others know the facts of the terrible circumstances and it scares them because they envision their own families or selves. Fear of them being hurt or buried alive in mud. Judgement plays no part. For the daily lives of all others, many people assign judgement. Call them lazy, drunks, drug addicts and first thoughts are that these people who are in the midst of their own crisis, tradgedy or illness will take advantage of their giving. I dont wish for peace in this world. I am Christian. I know this is not going to happen til Jesus returns. I do wish however, that people would help people as passionately as we have proven we can for those in a crisis. So much money was raised. Full buildings of food, clothing and an outpouring of love for one crisis and a housing developement of 49 families. I wish peoples compassion was not selective.
