I have been to Disney World many times. (We went many times when WGN Radio was the official Chicago Disney station). Its been 7 years since Ive been there, until this past week when we took our whole family on vacation. Here are a few observations I made since my last time there. 1. A lot of the older attractions have been updated (for the better!). 2. Some of the more recent movies are stealing the show with their performances or rides. 3. It is truly an International destination. It always has been, but very noticeable now with signs and announcements. 4. There is a marked increase in the use of powered motor scooters for those who have problems walking ( for whatever reason ). Sometimes, the walkways would literally be clogged with scooters. Disney is very good with those who have special needs. 5. The new wristband method of getting you into things (rooms...parks...paying for anything...) is amazing AND kinda creepy, but it speeds things up a bit I think. But, It also makes it easier to spend more! 6. While the experience is truly amazing and magical, it is also becoming very EXPENSIVE! It was noticeably MUCH more for the price of the resort rooms...food...snacks...gifts...etc. (you will pay almost $10 for just a cheeseburger) 7. I also noticed a new phenomenon that I called the transport glow. At night, while riding the bus back to your resort room, when they turn the lights off in the bus there is still an artificial glow of white light from all the smart phones that people are looking at to check emails or to look at the pictures they just took. You almost dont need the inside bus lights. 8. I am not very good at waiting in a line (sometimes for an hour and a half!) for a ride or show. Make sure you have a few fast passes you can use! They are a blessing. 9. If you have a room with a refrigerator and a microwave, buy some groceries and use them for breakfast and snacks. It will save you a TON! 10. Make no mistake...Mickey is STILL the main attraction! I wish every kid could go to Disney World to experience the magic that can only be realized as a youngster. Sadly, its becoming less and less of a possibility because of the cost. I still love Disney for all it does to bring smiles and happiness to so many people. If only the world could be this happy.
