I have been told that my year 8 son, who supposedly gets modified work in class and assessments can basically never hope to achieve much -the modified work might be just doing 1 of 3 tasks but he will only get marks for that one thing. Given he has low self esteem, where is the incentive to even try one thing when he will fail anyway? I would suggest giving him the opportunity to be assessed at his own level so that he can feel good about himself and have an opportunity to achieve a good mark, but then that would create a problem! How do you rank him against others in his year. Does anyone know of a way to deal with this, moving through High School?
