I have been tracking this project for 20 years, since it was the property of Paul Newman. Tommy L. Jones never wanted to film it in Nebraska. His statement in the Telluride guide for films (2014) indicated there is no crew in Nebraska. Why would we go there? And, he suggested the landscape is identical. He was really looking for incentives for his investors. There was no serious conversation with the Film Office as Nebraska is seen as not being able to compete due to lack of incentives. It is my understanding the production did film in New Mexico where there is a substantial incentive offered. However, that crew did have to find lodging for filming on location and that is typically a major below the line expenditure. Crew and services, part of the raw materials that create physical production possible are not sitting idle in the middle of remote pristine tall grass prairie, the setting of the original book by Glendon Swarthout. Dont get me started on the inaccuracies of the storyline of the screenplay... m.journalstar/entertainment/movies/review-the-homesman-soild-western-from-tommy-lee-jones-and/article_945ebf12-0351-57ee-82f0-c6d40b612145.html?mobile_touch=true
