I have been trying to find an unbiased perspective as to this - TopicsExpress

I have been trying to find an unbiased perspective as to this whole Common Core issue. Proponents on both sides of the issue have vociferously advocated their positions however, what seems to be lost in the arguments is...who to believe. While the site below is simplistic in its explanation....it gives a concise explanation of what some of the pros and cons of Common Core are....and the impact Common Core will have on not only School Districts as a whole, administratively, but the impact on students and teachers. It is my opinion, but if you look at 2,3,5,6,7, under PROs, I found number 6 to catch my attention quickly...based on the term assessments. Now, when reading the cons, I see some statements that are troubling. Pay attention to 1,2,3,5,7,8,9. The mere fact one of the major concerns is #2 which talks about adminstrators and teachers possibly looking for other careers. Many veteran teachers will retire rather than adjust the way they teach. The stress of getting their students to perform will likely cause more teacher and administrator burnout. #7: many textbooks will be considered obsolete....this will be a pricey fix as schools have to adopt new materials that are effectively Common Core ready. $$$$$$$. #8: $$$$$ to update technology for common core assessment testing..$$$$, and #9: Increased value on standardized test performance. While I see some advantages, I look at #2, 7, 8, and 9....as major issues....and based on what we are seeing in this district today....I am sensing these Cons are coming to fruition more rapidly here in Manchester.
