I have been working with MIT, Harvard and Berkeley to advance my AP education utilizing the systems they are implementing through EDX for the past 2 1/2 years. I have earned certificates from all three colleges for advanced Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Utilizing this opportunity is one of the best choices I have made. Free doesnt mean without cost to implement these courses into your degree platform, but it does put you way ahead of the pack (unless you fail of course). The courses offered are the best education you can get (paid or not) as you are being taught by some of these colleges best professors first hand. (Yes, really). Free Education is not impossible to find. Its slow coming but it will take precedence one day, and that is something everyone should fight for. EDX was created by MIT and Harvard for just this reason.
