I have come to realize I am in a very interesting position.. I am Jewish, I grew up understanding about Israel, we collected dimes in Sunday school to help buy trees for Israel, then just building its new state and trying to survive in a desert. My family was liberal and Democrats.. Later on , as my father grew a business, he decided he was more conservative and in his old age, and as he was diagnosed with Alzheimers, he seemed to become more conservative. I though never wavered, I am and have always been a Democrat and very liberal, tolerant, empathetic to those in need and although I do disagree sometimes with my most Progressive friends.. I think it is due to my age , when I was born.. and how we used to face reality of the situation. I was taught to respect the President even if he was a Republican( Eisenhower).. and believe that our government was mostly made up of those who wanted to serve our country and build a better America. I learned and heard the stories of the Holocaust , was reminded in Synagogue each year to remember those who were slaughtered. I am married to a Conservative, though moderate ( in most ways) Republican.. Far from a teaparty member, far from a disrespecful Obama basher.. but not convinced Democrats can fiscally due best by the country. But in the case of Israel, the Conservatives are more apt to support Israel, to admire their accomplishments, and to appreciate what Israel offers this world, and brings to build the world. They dont see what that forces like Hamas bring to the world in a positive way. More of my liberal friends ( Those who are not Jewish and did not grow up learning the complete history and beliefs of Jews.. to honor our world, Work hard, study hard, take care of the earth, treat all with respect, follow the 10 Commandments, community is important etc) are so strongly anti Israel and pro Palestinians.. it really is strange to me.. so I say, to me thi is very hard to grasp.. that we want a so much of the same things for our country..ie Womens rights, middle class stability, income equality, fair taxes, voting rights, freedom to choose for women, etc etc... please try to understand why I post this. Thank you.
