I have desisted from posting anything lengthy on Facebook in a long while. I have opted on creating a bottleneck of info in my head; read more, experience more but disseminate less of what I read, think and experience. I have managed to create a rift between myself and a myriad of issues most people could consider engaging on social media, let it be politics, economics, religion, philosophy and the silly topics on football and dating. Today morning, my colleague sparked me into posting something lengthy about what I will call a non-complex but rather, a silly topic making rounds on social media this stemming from yesterday. A colleague of mine finds me smoking (yes I do smoke once in a while—Dunhill switch does it for me! I really don’t have a clenched excuse as to why I smoke, but am I any different from many of you who drink coffee simply because the media has made it look cool. Many guys flap their coats in the evening over a disposable cup of coffee at coffee-promoted events yet they don’t like its taste or don’t know its health benefits. In fact they play naïve to the dangers caffeine possessed in the beverage could pose to the consumer). My friend asked me this: “Hey Kamukama Isaac, I want your take on this issue of Kalanguka Leah being crowned miss Uganda. Do you think she deserved the crown? Was she supposed to have the tiara perched on her head? Could you, as a Casanova ever date her? Are those sarcastic of her crowning right? As soon as he was done asking, I stopped smoking, dropped the half-smoked fag on the dump pavement, stepped on it to extinguish it before kicking away the flake beneath the mat of grass below to respond to my interrupter. We talked for a while. Let me just summarize everything here. This is an issue of aesthetics: Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of art, beauty, and taste, with the creation and appreciation of beauty. Everyone will define beauty differently in terms of what we create and perceive with our senses or what others create that we perceive with our senses. From the uproar and outbursts proffered fourth by you people out there, is shows Kalanguka Leah didn’t match up to your expectations. To her defenders, she did match up to their expectations. This is the first time the event is being run by the army which has decided to rebrand the event hence a new criteria was followed and hence new expectations emerged that triggered the outbursts and series of defending here and there. People should not be blamed that Miss Uganda didn’t turn out as they expected. It’s just that the maiden event which was supported by the army, insinuated a new motive in the event. It doesn’t solely rely on beauty as in the past (you can other wise call it a farm girls beauty peagent—the mantra should be changed to something different though) but other parameters were considered and it will be a matter of time perhaps that people come to terms with this reshuffle. So they should be given time. Leah was able to strike a compromise between “looks” and the agricultural skills the organizers wanted to equip these girls with. Sum it up quick: she was the most beautiful among the best farm girls who competed, not the other way round. lol. People have a right to voice their opinions on Leah. Some will make rabidly sarcastic remarks; others will heap her with comments of praise. But it is wrong for people to attack each other over Leah. Those who think Leah deserved it should not attack those who incline otherwise. It comes back to the individual’s ability to perceive her beauty or the other parameters that suited the organizers desires. Simply because many girls out there didn’t take part in the competition doesn’t justify Leah’s supporters into castigating them. Simply because you can’t make something or take part in making it happen doesn’t mean you should settle for less from those who can make or take part in it. People will always have expectations. And people’s expectations for now are beauty related on farming related as the organizers intent to a great extent (so they should also keep quite and allow the poor girl enjoy her few minutes of fame and ride). Simply because people prefer one color over the other doesn’t mean that they deserve to be reprimanded, it’s their choice. This business of people basing their arguments on skin color and other “natural” elements is outright silly. Many of you claim that natural is beautiful yet it’s hard to find a girl who is 100% “natural”. Don’t you want to be beautiful if the antecedent is true? Why do you spot acrylic nails, adorn fake hair, and stuff your behinds with hip cushions... Eh. Anyway time to go for the after lunch company activities. Will keep on checking your comments and replying to them if any. But don’t forget, everyone has an opinion on Leah, that’s good. But keep yourselves off attacking each other. Let your opinions not cause upheaval. I wonder how she will compare against the non-farming Venezuelans and Colombians though. Just saying.
