I have devised a formula that allows you to calculate how late your friends will be, incorporating their level of commitment to arriving at the destination and the amount of time that has elapsed since they woke up: Distance from destination (miles) = D Time elapsed since waking (minutes) = W Average speed of transport available (mph) = S Level of commitment (%) = C Journey time (h) = T D affects T (Directly) W affects T (Inversely) S affects T (Inversely) C affects T (Inversely) If C = 100 then T is not affected If W > 120 then T is not affected Therefore (when 0 < W < 120): 100D/CS + (60/(-2/3W + 80)) = T My good friend Jamaal Hepher has allowed me to include him in an example... Jamaal is going to go to Larrys party. He is 60 miles away and has the potential to travel at an average speed of 40 mph. He is 80% committed to making an appearance and woke up 30 minutes ago. Journey time: 2 hours 53 minutes
