I have finally snapped. Animals are family. If you do not - TopicsExpress

I have finally snapped. Animals are family. If you do not intend to make an animal your FOREVER family member. DO NOT GET A PET. Its sickening and sad to see so many ads of people just getting rid of their pets. The excuses are ridiculous. Unless the animal is dangerous to you and your family, there is NO EXCUSE to just dump an animal because you are done with it and or cant handle its care. A lot of places do not allow pets, or have specific breeds of dogs they do not allow. If you are not in a stable home, dont buy a pet. If you are not prepared to be very limited in your home choices because of your dog breed or amount of animals, DO NOT GET A PET. If you already are in a home and have to move, KEEP LOOKING until you find a place that allows ALL your family members. Would you sell your kids, if you couldnt afford a home, with enough rooms for all your kids? We lived in one place for 5 years, just because it was hard to find a new place that allowed 3 cats. They were our family though, there was no excuse to abandon them. Having a pet, is not for lazy people. Do not get an active dog, if you are not prepared to give it the exercise it needs/craves. If you think you are too busy or could become too busy and are too lazy and selfish to MAKE the time for an animal, do not get one. Not having a yard of your own, is not an excuse though. Get off your ass, take your dog for a walk, play fetch at the park, take them to a lake, get a laser pointer, have them run inside. Being lazy, is not an excuse. Really, any animal would truly only take an hour or two total out of your every day. Is that really that unrealistic to handle? I am disabled, I cant work. I have a 5 year old boy and 2 cats, and I still find time to exercise my very active lab/hound, every single day. It can be done, if you want it to. Cats are super laid back and easy to care for. Give them food, water and a clean litter box, they are happy. Pet them, hug them, play with them some every day, thats all they need. Take your dog for a half hour to an hour walk, the time will not kill you, thats ALL a dog needs. If an animal needs something, they WILL come to you. You do not work too much for a pet, I promise. If you already have too many animals to handle DO NOT GET ANOTHER ONE. I am tired of seeing posts how someone has too many animals, so they have to get rid of one. Figure that out BEFORE you get a new pet. Two animals not getting along, maybe understandable, if you give it TIME and they still fight dangerously then maybe you might want to find it a new home. It DOES take time for two animals to adjust to each other. I have a cat, who still slaps our dog when she gets near her and the dog has been here over a year. She will always do that, but that is not an excuse to get rid of one of them. We are on welfare and I am on disability, we still manage to take care of our pets. If you plan on having children in your future and you think you cant handle an animal along with a new baby, DO NOT GET AN ANIMAL. Animals CAN live with babies though, if you arent too lazy to care for both. Cats will NOT suffocate babies in the night, their scratches will NOT kill children. If you SUPERVISE your children and pets, they can live together happily. When my son was born, we had 3 cats, then we went down to two. Weve always had at least 2 cats. When he was 4, we got a puppy. It worked, because we wanted it to. Animals are expensive, animals do take a lot of work. If you are not prepared for it, just dont get a pet. Its very unfair to an animal, to take it into your home, love it, make it part of your family, then when something gets too rough, you abandon it and expect an animal to just adjust to a new family, because you were done with it. If I can do it, you can do it.
