I have free HBO, Cinemax, and all the other bullshit stations packed with shitty new movies from the last decade or so and it bums me out that there is literally nothing I want to see. No chance Ill watch Elysium or Were the Millers. I used to love watching new releases, any and all new releases but, man, even stuff thats supposed to be good, like Django Unchained sucks, in my opinion. I scroll through hundreds of movies hoping to find something fond like Gorky Park but eventually settle for the Chinatown sequel, The Two Jakes, and am instantly reminded of how bad the look and costume design was from 1990. Terrible, terrible. I shut it off real quick. Went to Netflix and tried to find something good, which is almost impossible. I selected Out Of The Furnace with Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson (a YES on True Detective!), with the description that it dealt with two blue collar brothers whose tight bond is strained. The blue collar films Deer Hunter and All The Right Moves will always be favorites of mine. I feared that Out Of The Furnace might be another fake and embarrassing 4 Brothers bullshit with Marky Mark (thats his real name in my book), but I loved it. From the first to the last moment of the film, I was riveted, and thats saying a helluva lot since the film begins and ends with Release Me, a less than decent song by one of my least favorite bands of the 90s, Pearl Jam. That song was the closest I ever got to liking that band. You know its been rough when you really miss Blockbuster.
