I have had a few questions the last few weeks from clients about interval training and if they should include it into their workouts. So what is interval training? Interval training is a series of workouts in which you alternate periods of high intensity exercise with low intensity recovery periods. For example sprinting for 30 seconds then jogging or walking for 60 seconds and repeating the intervals. There are many ways you can include interval training into your workout, for example; instead of riding on a stationary bike for 20 minutes at the same constant pace, you could include intervals such as 20 seconds at a high speed then 20 seconds at a lower speed, and repeat. These bursts of energy raise your heart rate and get you sweating and burning more calories than just peddling at the same speed for 20 minutes. There are some great benefits to interval training; - Strengthens your cardiovascular system which in turn improves your overall health - Improves your recovery time - Get a full work out done in less time and it’s more enjoyable! - Interval Training is a great way to train for long distance running Tips – Make sure you warm up first before heading straight into your intervals Start off slowly and gradually increase your intervals as the weeks go on When running / sprinting train on a smooth surface to avoid injuries Dont forget to cool down and stretch! Interval training then leads me to ....... High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) More to come on this amazing calorie burning, muscle strengthening routine!! Before starting any new exercise or workout please seek assistance from a qualified trainer to make sure this is right for you. If you have any questions please email me – nicolleling@gmail
