I have had an awesome time being a part of the Guyana Teams Development. This experience has truly been one of a lifetime. I am extremely encouraged by the caliber of Students, Athletes and future leaders abilities to grasp as well as apply the lessons we have presented. Today, I found myself discovering some development of my own. Long ago, around 16 years ago in fact, I attended my first leadership course. Primary Leadership & Development Course. This course was the gateway to transition from Jr. Enlisted ranks ( follower) to Non Commissioned Officer ranks (leaders) I first read of the Maslow hierarchy of needs model. The Army recognizes the relationship of these needs and places value in terms of providing leadership. Of the needs listed in this particular model, spiritual needs were among the top four or five that must be satisfied in order to achieve a higher degree of success. Nearly two weeks ago, I had an idea that I would ask the team if anyone would like to set some time aside for some nondenominational fellowship. Five cadets showed up. This Sunday, to my surprise, 10 decided to participate. I have been on both sides of the fence in terms of religion, as I am sure most of us have so this is not the point. What is important to understand. If we truly want to build the beat Teams possible, then we have to acknowledge their is a place to give our team members a chance to pay respect to their particular faith. The immediate change that I witnessed in this small group of individuals is truly astounding. A platform that brought team members of very different levels of influence and performance together. Something that would not have happened in my opinion. It is barely 8:00 A.M. In South America and already, our team has just broken through to a while new level. Our process works! I love my life and I love my job!
