I have heard and shared this testimony so many times and each time I hear it, it is still so touching. Paul Washers wife was a false convert for many years but was saved by the grace of God. This is a classic case of false conversion, the very thing that Paul Washer preaches about. You simply cannot know who is saved, outward appearances and behaviors are deceptive. Like Pharisees who were white-washed on the outside and full of dead mans bones on the inside. The Holy Spirit produces good fruit as we abide in Christ, and we do desire to live in modesty, in humility, and do good works, but these also can be counterfeited so easily. This is why I think the messages Paul Washer preaches are so important, for this very reason of false conversions, it does rub false converts the wrong way, as it did to his own wife, Charo. Many people in church circles, even devoted missionaries, pastors and pastors wives are deceived or deceiving themselves and others. Paul Washers mainstream messages may seem harsh at times, but they are not directed to believers but unbelievers (most specifically those unbelievers who believe themselves to be believers). For believers, these messages should not bring condemnation, but rather conviction that leads to clinging to Christ and assurance of salvation in what Christ has done for us and rejoicing in how He has changed our hearts and lives and continues to change us. We should be pleased to test ourselves to see that INDEED we ARE in the faith! I am very encouraged by his messages, it makes me see my CONTINUED desperate need of Christ!
